A “non-stop, energy ride shooting out of the gate with a driving drumbeat, a thunderous guitar riff, and an anthemic lyrical delivery” – East of 8th
Toronto – July 8th, 2019 – Toronto-based alt-pop band Madame Psychosis is welcoming the summer with the release of “Kapow”, their third single of 2019. With a catchy, sing-along chorus and a gritty, fast-paced progression, “Kapow” is an anthemic, feel-good slice of alt-pop fitting for hot days in the sun and long drives with car windows rolled down. “Kapow” highlights the pursuit that lies at the heart of getting someone you are interested in to give you a chance, and the heart-dropping moment of being rejected. It was recorded at Union Sound Company in Toronto and mixed by Alex Gamble. It premiered exclusively with The Spill Magazine on July 4th in Canada, and with Nashville-based East of 8th in the U.S. on July 8th. It is available on all major streaming services today.
The five-piece band first made waves with their debut album “Madame Psychosis”, released in June of 2017. Alan Cross, the internationally syndicated host of The Ongoing History of New Music, selected the single “Space Motorcycle” for his weekly Top 11 Playlist in August of 2017. The album was also featured on 94.9 The Rock’s emerging artist spotlight Generation Next.
In January of 2019, the band released “Just Wanna Be Myself” as the lead single off their upcoming sophomore record and performed it live on Global’s nationally televised The Morning Show. A Journal of Musical Things says it’s “a fun, upbeat song with sweet yet edgy female vocals”. Stereo Stickman says, “this song is one that gets better and better with each revisit.”
In May 2019, the band released “Crashing Down”, which was referred to as “a song that takes the listener on a poetic journey” in Spill Magazine’s exclusive premiere of the song. They also performed at Canadian Music Week, where they hit the stage for two showcase performances and cracked Dropout Entertainment’s Top Picks for CMW.
Coming off the heels of this positive reception, the band is turning their attention to the release of their sophomore album in September. To promote the album, they will be performing “Kapow” on CHCH Morning Live on August 9th and on Global’s The Morning Show on September 23rd.
