This is from March 2011 when I was just under a year into taking drum lessons. I did this recital with other students and asked if we could play Everlong, thinking I could do the song justice. It was HARD as hell especially for a newbie drummer but I was determined and did the best I could. Taylor Hawkins had that magic that helped make this grown ass woman want to learn to be a Rock & Roll drummer at 27 years old. His talent and creativity were infectious and inspiring. What a huge loss. 💔

We haven’t felt this good in a minute. Thanks for coming through and reminding us that this music thing is necessary. Back to work.

It’s Black History Month so let’s bring this back and take a moment to talk about the current state of the Rock music industry along with honouring some of the Rock & Roll originators. Black musicians continue to be severely underrepresented in this industry and has much changed over the past couple of years? Are there enough BIPOC gatekeepers and decision-makers in this industry who can make some meaningful change? Is the tokenism approach that we’re seeing more harmful than good? Let’s talk and let’s continue building a community ourselves.
