#TBT to when we played our first gig at the Horseshoe Tavern

As we prepare to showcase a few new songs at our upcoming show at Horseshoe Tavern, we wanted to take a trip down memory lane and look back to when we first had the honour and privilege of performing at the iconic venue in July of 2018. In honour of all the music legends that have graced the stage at Horseshoe, we performed a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter”:

Now, as alluded to above, the ‘Shoe’ has hosted some of the biggest names in music: The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Stompin Tom’, The Band, The Police, Etta James, Foo Fighters, Bryan Adams, Arcade Fire, Bruce Cockburn, Blue Rodeo, Barenaked Ladies, The Strokes, The Ramones, Big Wreck, Billy Talent, The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace…the list goes on. And if you didn’t know, the lyric ‘That night in Toronto. With its checkerboard floors’ in the Tragically Hip song “Bobcaygeon” is a direct reference to the checkerboard floors at the Horseshoe Tavern!

To say we were excited is a massive understatement. Take a quick walk past the wall of fame, which is adorned with countless ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, setlists, and concert posters, and you’ll realize just how many incredible artists have stopped by this venue. 2018 also marked the 70th anniversary since the Horseshoe opened their doors – this made it even more of a special occasion.

Here’s a gallery capturing the highlights of the evening:

We were also impressed by the A&W kiosk that sits next to the bar. Just put in your order, and the next thing you know your burger mysteriously appears in a nondescript window right next to the pool table (if you haven’t guessed, the A&W and Horseshoe Tavern share a wall). To visit Horseshoe Tavern and not order a burger combo from the kiosk means you’re not really getting the full experience.

If you like what you see here – or you just wanna order a burger from a strange window – come check us out on February 25th as we take the stage once again. It’s free and we promise a good time. See you there!
