The man behind Madame Psychosis’ poster art

Poster art has always been an important part of any band’s image, often becoming synonymous with a live gig, an entire tour or the band as a whole. Super fans collect this poster art and take pride in finding a rarity from a band’s early days. Here’s what our multi-talented guitar player Bret McCaffrey has to say about his poster art creations for the Toronto rock band.

Legs – The Silver Dollar Room, May 26th, 2016

I was drawing a lot of figures at this time when I was doing this one. My favourite part about this one is the legs (laughs).

Is that Madame Psychosis? (Related: Who, or what, is Madame Psychosis?)

No, no, it was just something I thought was a cool image and I like the way the charcoal looked.

Pretty Lady – The Smiling Buddha, June 8th, 2016

Hand & Chin – The Central, September 3rd, 2016

I was really happy with this one. I really liked how the hand turned out, and the shading around her chin really turned out well.

The Skull – Revival Bar, October 21st, 2016

Oh the skull. I love drawing skulls. I actually challenged myself with this one to see what I could come up with in 20 minutes. So this is a 20-minute sketch that I put together, and then used the acetone over top of it to get the effect around the outside. So I thought this was cool.

Dead Flowers – Horseshoe Tavern, December 5th, 2016

This is my actually my favourite one. I just like the composition of this one. I just like all of the colours, the red, black and white in this one. This one I just thought was really cool.

Note: this show was postponed to a later date in 2017.

Eyes – Revival Bar, February 10th, 2017

I love drawing eyes. When I’m drawing faces, this is my favourite thing to do. You just capture so much in the eyes. I like the shocked expression on this. That’s what I want people to look like when they see Madame Psychosis.
